Parc del Mil·lenni

Around the park there has been human activity since ancient times. From the Iberian period they date the remains found on the Calamot hill, which dominates the western boundary of the park and where, between the 5th and 12th centuries, before Christ there was a population center. There were, however, other smaller establishments, close to the fields of cultivation, as evidenced by a silo and different remains found around the current cemetery. Already in modern times, the clayey terrain of the surroundings was profiteer to install bricks to make bricks. In 1757 there was already one, on the site of the Municipal Stadium (where there remains, restored, the chimney) that provided the growing demand for construction of the country. In the nineteenth century new blocks were established on the left side of the current avenue Joan Carles I.

The construction of the park has allowed the Androgin of the Millennium to be installed, a sculpture that is neither a man nor a woman, 15 meters high and given by the theater group La Fura dels Baus. With the park, Gavà has won Also a new cultural equipment, the outdoor auditorium that receives the name of a great musician and composer, Marc Grau, son of Gavà, born in 1955 and died in 1999.

The Garrofers coexist in the Park, witnesses of an agricultural exploitation of the territory not very distant (we could say that it was exploited until the 1950s) and a white pine forest, with a cork oak, which, as a result of the abandonment of These farms have reconquered their natural domains. Between the pine forest we highlight some good oak rocks associated to the riverside community of the streams that run through the park. During the fall and winter we find birds such as red peat, smoked carrot, cardenera or pineapple that go down to feed. Strings tend to stroll through the streams and at night you can hear sing the owl. Thorny pineapples indicate the presence of field mice and squirrels and, near the park, the sporadic presence of foxes and wild boar has been found.
